KEY FRAMES

We wanted to blend two clips together, to have a shot fading in and out over another clip.  We discovered another editing tool called key frames. we adjusted them so we could but two clips together using opacity control. We selected key frames within the key video2 and adjusted the opacity so it faded in/out where we wanted it too and how much it faded. We plan to use this again with a clip of lily over matt to show they are in love.

Update; looking at what we have done so far.

This is the editing we have done so far. We have used a variety of long and short shots, with the dark spaces being left for other clips we have yet to go through. We really like the slow motion and speeding up of the boys getting in the car and we feel our lip-syncing is spot on and works really well. We plan to look more into the lighting and review the other driving clips and to work out where we want to use clips of the love relationship between a girl and the lead singer.

we would also like to review the timing of some clips as they do not seem to fit the beat as much as we liked.    An example is the clip at the beginning of the drums as he doesn't hit them on the beat, which is what we are aiming for.
I have also shown this sample video to my brother who is the lead singer of the band. He really enjoyed it and thought what we had done so far was really good. I explained about our new opacity methods and he is really excited to see this.

Editing 30th January

30th January 2013: Today we discovered how to slow clips down and how to speed them up. We used this new skill in our video by how the boys get in the car, which works well to the beat of the song. We then reversed a clip and sped two up too 200% and ran them back to back, so it seems as if they are getting in and out very quickly.

SLOW MOTION

Today we learnt how to do slow motion within our video. We slowed the clip of the boys jumping in the car down by 50% and it shows a really good effect with the beat of the song. We did this by selecting the clip which we wanted to slow down, then right clicked and selected 'speed and duration.' This enabled us to alter the speed, which is given in %'s and we halved the clip from 100% to show the effect.

Filming 27th January

It is a nice sunny day, and since Olly does not have rugby, we are heading down a little bit earlier to ensure we have the most filming time as possible.
We are going to use Graces car , as my neighbour is still being a bit picky on when we will take out his car, which is understandable because of the current weather conditions.

The lighting in our new footage is much brighter and the contrast between the two perhaps shows past and present, with the past and the journey to the location is the main priority.

We have ensured we took lots of different types of shots, including long shot, mid-shot, close up and high angle. The example below is a close up shot of a car wheel with the transition of zoom, which we will edit into our music video. I used a hand held approach with this shot, as at the start the music is quite shaky before it really gets into the beat which will fit well.

Editing update

We are editing again, and we are making good progress with the shots which we have taken. The lighting is a little bit dark, but we are going to pick this up and show the contrast between travelling in the day and performing in the afternoon.

The issue which has occurred is that when we fill the screen with the clips, they go a little blurry, which is something we do not want to happen.

Filming day 2

We have decided to use one of our backup filming days to film the narrative aspect. Brandon is staying over at my house so he is already in the morning to film. We are picking Olly up at 1:30 so we should get a good few hours before it goes dark,
I will be taking lights and reflectors to enable us to get the best lighting possible.

Editing

Today me and grace have started the editing process.. we have started by looking through the clips and picking out the most interesting and close up shots from the performance element.

A meeting with the neighbor

i shall be going round to my neighbor Carls house tomorrow to discuss the issue with the car.. In
preparation I have looked at the weather forecast for next sunday.. unfortunately it is not available just yet, so i will have to keep checking ..

Our life as we know it- currently

We managed to film our performance on the 6th :) we are on schedule with my time management. however unfortunately Olly our bassist is unavailable on the 13th due to his mums birthday , so we are pushing our filming date over to the 20th. I am still yet to talk to my neighbor about the car, which will be happening tomorrow, as yesterday he was not home when i went round. It is due to snow over the weekend and my neighbor clearly stated he will only retrieve his car from his garage if it is NOT wet outside. This could be a real issue if this happens. We have talked together and decided that if it is too wet for our original car to be used, then our back-up is grace's car, which we used in our test shoots. it is more modern, but convertible so we can perform the 'stunts' we discussed.

everything will be just fine!

everything is sorted., postcode Grace gave me sent me to Wolverhampton, but everything is alright now after i rang her.

Olly agreed to come today as planned, with a lot of convincing, and grace did the same with Ben

Dates for the diary

Here is a few dates which we have decided on in which we will compete our music video:

6th January : film the performance element at Grace's house
7th: January: Back to college and start editing the recordings we filmed yesterday. Also confirm the next filming date with rest of group

12th feb: ideal music video finished to allow extra time to edit to make better and gather feedback from the focus group.
15th Fed : music video deadline

Something is Wrong!

We had agreed to film part of our video today. Somewhere through communication, we have crossed lines, and I thought we were filming the performance aspect today and the car element another. The communication in our group isnt very strong at the moment and we need to sort out exactly what we are filming and where. It doesn't help that we have not been at college for two weeks and haven't seen anybody to confirm.

the second problem we have is one of our singers tried to pull out at 1:00 pm asking if we could do it Monday. I have been telling then all week that we are filming today and I don't think I can trust our band as much as i should. They are only 15 and are swamped with revision, which is an element we had not registered when we asked the  to participate.

These are problems which need addressing urgently

Risk Assessment update

I have created a table with all the potential risks which could occur at our locations throughout the filming process.
Location
Risk
Prevention?
Potential outcome
Car
When Jumping and entering he car, there is the hazard of tripping over the sides of the cars.
Be careful when jumping and entering the car as there are many potential outcomes. Perhaps practice over a fence first. (risk potentials here too)
2 x 2 = 3

Ripped seats from jumping in or moving in the car.
Keep feet off chairs and aim to jump into the car landing in the foot-well.
1 x 1 = 1

Falling out of the moving car when dancing/ ‘messing’ around
Be mature and be sensible, not go over the top, but the realistic it is, the better although be sure to keep safe.
1 x 3 = 3

Distraction of driver
Keep sensible and follow instructions by director to ensure the driver has no problems. He will be driving slowly so there should be no accidents, but it still could happen.
1 x 2 = 2

The position of lights to distract the driver
Ensure the lights for fake lighting are positioned in a suitable place and not obstructing the view of the car driver
1 x 1 = 2
Performance
Tipping over cables and wires
Ensure that all cables and wires of amplifiers and also the lighting are moved and kept out of the way where the band and people are walking.  This could cause concussion and head injuries.
2 x 2 = 4

Tripping over objects such as instruments and amplifiers.
Make sure all hazardous objects are put in one place so there are no risks of tripping over. Put away when not using them.
2 x 2 = 4

Blinding the artists by using too much lighting.
Position the lights in the correct way so the band is able to see clearly and are able to play with ease. Position the lights to suit the lighting position and the band.
1 x 1 = 1

It may rain or snow
Look at the weather forecast and choose suitable days for filming with the least risks of rain or snow as if either occur, the car will not be used. If it does rain or snow then the filming will have to postpone until a dry and clear day. Therefore we will have to create several back up plans, if this is the case.
3 x 1 = 3

Unnecessary people- distraction.
Keep unrequired people out of the way and in another room or another part of the location so they do not distract the group and cast from filming. This may apply from family of band and the location owners.
3 x 2 = 6

Shadows
Prevent shadows by using fake lighting to determine where to place the shadows or to remove them, creating the desired scene.
2 x 1 = 2
Inside the house/ Bedroom
Falling over objects

How likely is it going to happen –
1- not very likely
2- Neither Likely or unlikely
3- Very Likely

How much impact do the results of action have? –
1- Not a lot of impact
2- a slight impact
3- A lot of impact

Risk assessment

This is a risk assesment which as been drawn up to outline the potential dangers and how we can avoid them

Subject
Risk
How to prevent it
Likeliness of occuring
Car
Tripping over whilst jumping
Be careful when jumping into the car. Be aware of the height of the car and let participants aware of the risks. Jump one at a time or test first before you let volunteers do it.
3 x 1 = 3

Falling out
Keep arms and legs inside of the car and do not lean out of the car. Respect the car and the driver who is driving.
1 x 1  1

Damaging seats
Be careful with your feet, jump in with no shoes perhaps? Keep shoes off the seats to avoid damage to the car
2 x 2 = 4
Performance
Loose Wires
Watch out for wires as there is a tripping hazard. Put all wires leading the same way in a bunch so everyone knows where they are and can avoid tripping over
2 x 3 = 6

Being hit by instruments
Be aware of others using instruments and jumping with them, so get too close to each other.
2 x 2 = 4

Loud noises
Try not to disturb the neighbours by playing too loud, loud enough to hear on the video as we are taking out the audio from filming
2 x 2 = 4

Not knowing lyrics
Vital part of the video and lip-syncing. Make sure all actors know the lyrics and are able to sing along. It is a risk we are giving to the band to learn.
1 x 3 = 3
Bedroom
Falling out of the window
Keep into the bedroom with face just appearing out of the window.
1 x 3 = 3
Location
Dogs
Ignore and stop filming until it has been retrieved by owner
2 x 1 = 2

Loose object
Be careful of tripping hazards such as loose stones which you could fall over and could damage the car.
2 x 1 = 2
Equipment
Not got right equipment
Ensure we have all the required equipment before we get to the location.
2 x 3 = 6

Low battery
Charge up cameras the night before so we have a full battery for filming the next day.
3 x 3 = 9

Broken equipment
Look after the equipment and tell owner if broken and agree necessary actions.
2 x 2 = 4
